Getting to Side & Manavgat from Alanya

Side and Manavgat are two of the most popular day trips west of Alanya — Side for its ancient ruins and seafront temple, Manavgat for its big Saturday market and waterfall. Manavgat is roughly 45–50 km away (about an hour) and Side a little further at around 60–65 km. You can reach both by dolmuş or bus, by taxi, or most easily on an organised day tour with hotel pickup. Here's how each option works.

By dolmuş or bus (cheapest)

The budget option is public transport along the main coast road. In practice you usually head to Manavgat first, then take a short connecting dolmuş to Side if that's your destination.

  • To Manavgat: dolmuş and intercity buses run regularly along the D400 coast road. Cheap, and you pay in cash.
  • On to Side: a short local dolmuş connects Manavgat to Side, dropping you near the ruins and centre.
  • Time: allow longer than a direct trip — it's the trade-off for the low fare.

New to the system? See how the dolmuş works in Alanya before you set off, and carry small lira notes.

By taxi (quickest, door-to-door)

A taxi gets you there directly with no changes, which is appealing for a group or if you're short on time. It costs considerably more than the dolmuş, so it's best split between a few people. Use a taxi app like BiTaksi for an upfront fare, or agree the price before you set off — see taxi prices in Alanya. For a full day with several stops, a private transfer or driver-for-the-day can work out better value than meter fares back and forth.

By organised tour (easiest)

For most visitors, an organised day trip is the simplest way to see Side and Manavgat. You get hotel pickup and drop-off, no working out connections, and tours often combine the highlights — Side's ancient theatre and Temple of Apollo, the Manavgat waterfall, and a boat trip or the market — into one well-paced day. It costs more than going solo by dolmuş, but the convenience and the guide's local knowledge are worth it for many. Browse what's available on our excursions page.

What's actually there?

  • Side: beautifully preserved Roman ruins right by the sea — the Temple of Apollo at sunset is the postcard shot — plus a pedestrianised old town, shops and beaches.
  • Manavgat: known for its wide waterfall, river boat trips, and a large weekly market (famous for its Saturday/Monday markets — handy if you love a bazaar).

If markets are your thing, time your trip with the Manavgat market day and combine it with the waterfall.

Which option is right for you?

  • Budget & flexible: dolmuş/bus via Manavgat — cheapest, but slower and with a change.
  • Group or time-poor: a taxi or private driver — direct and door-to-door.
  • Easiest & most rewarding: an organised tour — pickup included, highlights combined, no logistics.
